The Saints and Stones trails
The Saints and Stones trails are short pilgrimage routes leading towards the cathedral at St Davids. Each trail invites the visitor, or pilgrim, to call in at a number of Dewisland’s historic rural churches as well as other ancient and medieval historic sites, such as the cromlech Carreg Samson. The trails have been set up to give both holiday visitors and Pembrokeshire residents access to the deep spiritual qualities of these ancient places of worship, and access to some of our area’s more remote and beautiful corners.
The ‘Pilgrims from the Sea’ trail includes our churches at St Nicholas, Granston, Mathry and Llanrhian. The ‘Bishop’s Road’ trail includes Roch Castle and the churches at Brawdy, Llandeloy and Llanhywel. The Saints and Stones website provides all the information one needs, and the routes are well-signposted. Following part or all of these trails, on foot or by car, can be thoroughly recommended as a day of one’s holiday that has been well spent.
